While the internet was freaking out early this week about the Starbucks Red Cup War on Christmas, this girl was freaking out about the fact that Wild Pheasant and Fall Turkey Season was opening this weekend and my “Mom” calendar was already overbooked with Soccer Games, 4-H Activities, Housewarming Parties, and Musical Tickets already paid for! Where would I fit a hunt into this already insane schedule?!
This is the most wonderful time of the year…especially for a hunter! There is just so much opportunity to get outdoors and HUNT! Pheasants, Turkeys, and Ducks! Oh my;) and all of these hunts are pretty kid friendly type hunts, that the entire family can enjoy! So after today through the entire month of December (December 27th actually) we can take to the fields in search of a variety of winged creatures! Love it!
Our hunting service, CICC Outdoor Adventures will have a few guided hunts available for both Fall Turkeys and Wild Pheasants! So please check out our website www.hunt-fish-game.com if you are interested in booking a hunt. But for those of you who may be inclined to a more do it yourself style outing, I would certainly check out our refuge system here in the Valley. Sacramento, Delevan and Colusa are likely refuges to turn up a Pheasant or two. You can find some detailed info here on the Fish & Wildlife Service Site.
As far as Fall Turkeys go, check out the Cache Creek Wildlife Area on the border of Colusa and Lake Counties. There is a good population of tukeys roaming that area as well as the Daugherty Hill Wildlife Area in Yuba County. As with any public areas, please do your homework and learn the area before your hunt!
I’m excited to get out and attempt to bag a bird or two. Just need to find the time to sneak a hunt in this busy schedule of ours! Hopefully a wild bird will be the centerpiece of our thanksgiving dinner and yours too!
